I did not get a job but just an internship and that was over 3 months later, a few other cohorts took 6, 8 months and another took a year to finally land a developer job, none were 90k+ that the bootcamp advertised. Those leetcode interviews are hard af and they don’t teach it at bootcamp ?Īlso your assumption that you’ll get a job immediately after bootcamp is faulty. I recommend teaching yourself for a bit before deciding. Have you studied coding on your own, followed online tutorials, made things, freecodecamp can get you started pretty easily but it’s much harder than that. To echo some other comments this might work but you really have to think about your aptitude for a job as a developer. Overall I would lose some money, but the pay bump and overall job satisfaction might make up for this. I would lose ~ $25k in lost wages from leaving my job but make up an extra ~ $12k in additional wages from the higher paying job. Leave my job and have little to no income for about 4 months, finish off 2022 at a $100k salary. We have enough saved up to last those 15 weeks and my wife will still be working, but it could still be a risk. But my own happiness aside, would it be smart to do this? I'm well aware I could learn most of this on my own, but it's difficult going to work 8 hours a day and also spending additional time teaching myself this stuff, especially with a family. I believe would be happier in this type of position and be able to grow. I know some bootcamps may have a bad reputation and can't promise anything, but with the security clearance at play this is a very likely outcome.

I asked about average salaries coming out of it, and most graduates are around the $100k range with the lowest they've seen last year being $80k.

It's 100% free and about 15 weeks in length. I recently got contacted by a reputable and pretty successful coding bootcamp specifically targeting people coming out of the military with that security clearance. With me being in the National Guard, I do have a security clearance. I don't want to dive into the ethics/legality of this, but let's just say I won't get a raise when I hit my 1 year in August. My boss really likes me and rated me highly for the year, but when it comes down to raises and such it's more of a corporate decision than his, and they only look at numbers rather than quality of work. We strive for 75% and my percentage for 2021 sits at around 40% after the training. My performance is heavily based on my "effectiveness" and although they aren't "punishing" me for being gone for training, I still worked part-time and had to log a lot of work hours under a non-billable category, dramatically lowering my effectiveness. I'm currently in the national guard and missed a good chunk of the fiscal year due to some training. I feel like this is a type of position I'll be stuck doing forever if I don't move on to something different. I don't feel like I'm developing as a worker and I don't feel like when my 1 year comes around I'll get much of a raise.

I'm pretty satisfied with the salary but the type of work feels very niche and overall stagnant. I am currently working at a job paying $75k a year. I know most people will read the title and say "coding bootcamps are worthless etc etc" but I believe my situation is a little more unique than that, so please read.
